This fortune-telling system generates random numbers based on the detection of minute natural radiation particles at the threshold of the exhibition space using a Geiger counter. These random values are then used to randomly recombine online-collected texts such as “how to become rich,” “how to stay healthy,” and “self-development phrases.” The generated sentences are transmitted as Wi-Fi signals, which are detected by visitors’ devices as they move across the threshold. By using natural radiation—possessing a far purer and more objective randomness than the computer-generated pseudo-random—the system operates as a mechanism where “human-made sets of meanings” collide with the “algorithm-free randomness of nature.
